Programme Description
This qualification is designed to prepare support workers for performing specialized tasks and functions in aged care services, whether in residential facilities, home care settings, or community-based environments. These workers are responsible for their own performance and outcomes within the framework of the organization’s guidelines. They ensure the provision of high-quality services by developing, facilitating, and reviewing individualized service plans and delivery methods.
Role and Responsibilities
Support workers are entrusted with substantial responsibilities, which include but are not limited to:
- Self-Management: Taking ownership of their tasks and ensuring their work adheres to the predefined organizational guidelines and standards.
- Quality Service Delivery: Maintaining high standards of service through continuous development and facilitation of individualized care plans tailored to the unique needs of each elderly client.
- Leadership: Demonstrating leadership skills within their scope of work, which may involve guiding and overseeing the performance of other team members. Although their leadership responsibilities are limited, they play a crucial role in ensuring the team’s outputs meet the organization’s quality and quantity benchmarks.
- Individualized Care: Focusing on the unique needs of older individuals, creating and implementing care plans that promote their well-being and address specific risks, such as those associated with dementia or palliative care needs.
Practical Experience
To successfully earn this qualification, candidates must complete a minimum of 120 hours of practical work experience. This hands-on experience is critical, as it allows candidates to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, honing their skills in providing personalized and effective aged care services. These practical hours are meticulously detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the competency units, ensuring comprehensive exposure to various aspects of aged care.
Regulatory Compliance
At the time of publication, there are no specific licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements associated with this qualification. This means that while the qualification equips workers with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in aged care support roles, there are no additional legal or regulatory hurdles to clear in order to achieve certification.
This qualification equips support workers with the expertise needed to excel in aged care environments. It emphasizes the importance of individualized care, quality service delivery, and responsible self-management. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical experience, candidates are well-prepared to meet the complex needs of older adults in various care settings, ensuring their health, safety, and well-being.
Packaging Rules
Total number of units = 18
- 15 core units
- 3 elective units, consisting of:
- At least 2 units from the electives listed below
- Up to 1 unit from the electives listed below, any endorsed Training Package, or accredited course – these units must be relevant to the work outcome
Entry requirements
- All applicants must have passed an ACSF test (LLN test)- Students will get an online link to complete after submitting the enrolment form.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Should have min completion of Year 10 +2 or any other health-related qualifications.
- The learner must have computer literacy.
